Looking for a fun way to earn a Badge, Elective, or Award while visiting one of your scouts’ favorite places? Then look no further and explore our scout program options! Your group members will have a great time discovering zoo animals and learning along the way. Each program described below meets all requirements for the intended badge, unless otherwise noted. While here for a Badge program experience, your scouts may enjoy:
- Animal meet-and-greets, with the opportunity to touch most animals
- Informative and interactive presentations and discussions
- Crafts, games, and other hands-on activities
- A tour of a portion of the Zoo



Cost
Scout (or Sibling) Participant
$5 per child per session
Program fee is in addition to Zoo Admission*
Adults 16+
$2 per adult per session
Program fee is in addition to Zoo Admission*
*Zoo admission is not included in the program fee but is required of all attendees. Zoo Members may use their memberships for entry as long as the named adult passholder(s) is/are present
Girl Scout Programs
Brownie Scouts
Pets Badge – 1 session: In this program, scouts will find out which animals can make good pets and learn how to keep them healthy and comfortable. We will also learn what it takes to clean up after them, as the scouts clean in our Children’s Zoo! Participants will create enrichment for pets and zoo animals alike, and learn how to schedule feedings for different types of animals! (Meets all requirements) Please note, this program can only accommodate a maximum of 20 scouts.

Junior Scouts
Animal Habitats Badge – 1 session: Come learn all about where animals live! Scouts will learn about adaptations that animals in different habitats have and how some habitats are endangered. We’ll also tour the zoo and engage in animal observations, learn about the “homes” animal parents make for their babies, and help organize a habitat clean up! (Scouts will need to complete a “habitat improvement” project after the zoo program to meet all requirements)

Cadette Scouts
Animal Helpers Badge – 1 session: Scouts will become Animal Helpers! We will learn about how keeping and caring for an animal can help someone emotionally and how animals can help people with disabilities. Scouts will tour the zoo and learn how some animals have altered human history. Participants will also hear stories of animal heroes and how some animals’ unique abilities could help us in the future. (Meets all requirements)

Boy Scout Programs
Bear Cub Scouts
Fur, Feathers & Ferns – 2 sessions (includes lunch break): Scouts will have an adventure while taking a close-up look at animals AND plants found at the zoo. We’ll learn what has caused some species to become extinct or endangered in the wild. While on a tour of the zoo, we’ll learn about signs animals leave behind. Scouts will even plant seeds of their own while we learn about composting. (Meets all requirements in 2 sessions)

Webelos Cub Scouts
Into the Wild (Arrow of Light Elective) – 2 sessions: In this program, scouts will bring out their WILD sides as we play a bird migration game and become important pieces in a food chain. During our zoo tour, we’ll learn about animals’ natural habitats and talk about the importance of certain habitats, like wetlands, and the impacts humans have on them. (Meets all requirements in two sessions)
