We are committed to making the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park a fun and inviting place for everyone. If you have questions or need assistance during your visit, our wonderful zoo staff and volunteers are happy to help.
Services
Wheelchairs
The Zoo is accessible for guests using wheelchairs and other mobility assistive devices used for a disability. Acceptable mobility assistive devices include manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, walkers, steerable knee walkers, single-seat electric scooters with three or more wheels that cannot exceed 6 mph, and some stand-up powered devices when needed for a disability. The Zoo rents motorized scooters for a reasonable fee (available seasonally), and regular wheelchairs are available (year-round) for guests to use at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Just ask for one upon arrival.
Universal Changing Stations
Adult-sized changing tables are available for use in either of the Care Cabins. One is located in the Children’s Zoo and the other is located at the north end of the Zoo, beside the snowy owl habitat. The Education & Conservation Center’s women’s restroom also features an extra-large handicapped stall.
Service Animals
Pets are not allowed at the Zoo. Service animals that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities are welcome at the Zoo. Individuals with service dogs must identify their dog on arrival to the Zoo and participate in a brief discussion with zoo staff to learn the zoo’s rules and guidelines for service dog safety. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and are not permitted inside the Zoo.
Sensory Needs
The Zoo is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all of our guests, including those with sensory needs. The Zoo has earned Sensory Inclusive™ certification through a partnership with KultureCity, a nationally recognized nonprofit that provides sensory inclusion training and tools to venues and large-scale events. Sensory Bags with noise-canceling headphones, fidgets, feeling zone cards, a weighted lap pad, and more are available for rent in the zoo’s gift shop. Additionally, signs depicting Quite Areas and Headphone Zones are visible throughout the Zoo.
Special Needs
The NEW Zoo will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy its programs, services, and activities. To request an ADA accommodation, please contact the Zoo a minimum of two weeks prior to your planned visit. Accommodations may be requested via our contact page.
