Summer Zoo Camp

The WILDest way to spend a summer day!

Zoo Camp is a WILD way for children to spend the day!  Each year, we offer a variety of programs for students entering 1st through 7th grades.  Most sessions fill quickly. Registration opens annually in January.

Summer Zoo Camp Basics

Children must be registered to attend a session that corresponds to the grade they will be entering in the fall. A morning snack and afternoon treat is provided by the zoo, but parents must provide a non-microwaveable, non-refrigerated lunch for each camper every day. Every program includes educational presentations, live animal encounters, zoo tours, and other fun activities like games and crafts.  Children should dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.

The NEW Zoo offers TWO types of summer camp programs:

All programs begin at 8:45am and end at 3:00pm daily. Children must be registered to attend a session that corresponds to their age group and the grade they will be entering in fall of 2026.

All Camps Include
  • Live animal visits in the classroom
  • Educational presentations
  • Tours of the Zoo
  • Fun, hands-on activities like games or crafts
  • A morning snack (students choose from peanut-free popcorn cooked in coconut oil OR nut- and dairy-free pretzels or animal crackers)
  • A short, educational video is watched during lunch time
  • An afternoon treat (like a freeze pop or granola bar, based on weather)

2026 Topics & Dates

Summer Zoo Camps (Four-Day Sessions)

For 1st & 2nd Graders ($200)

Animal Appetites

When it comes right down to it, nature is basically a giant buffet, and animals are always ready to fill their plates! In this camp, we’ll discover how animals find food to suit their tastes, whether they’re herbivores, omnivores, carnivores, or some of the unique critters in between. We’ll even explore how zookeepers keep our animals well-fed and healthy – and we’ll get to feed some of the critters ourselves.

Offered:

For 3rd & 4th Graders ($200)

Creature Myth Busters

Is it true that porcupines can shoot their quills and that snakes can unhinge their jaws? Do wolves really howl at the moon, and can owls actually turn their heads all the way around? You’ve heard these lines before… but are they fact or fiction? We’ll work together to explore these legends and find out which ones are true – and which ones are just tall tales!

Offered:

For 5th, 6th & 7th Graders ($200)

Zoo Insiders – How to Run a Zoo

It takes an army of individuals in a wide range of careers to keep a world-class, accredited zoo running successfully. But – there is one thing they all require: a commitment to the wellbeing of animals and the conservation of species. In this camp, we’ll explore some of the many roles and responsibilities that every zoo has – and go behind-the-scenes to see firsthand what it takes to care for over 200 animals at once.
